Further, at this time, some of the issues covered in this article are not described as thoroughly by the Canadian standard. While ADA is not mandatory in Canada, it still provides important information to guide design of barrier-free washrooms. When designing public restrooms, Canadian Standards Association (CSA) B651-12, Accessible Design for the Built Environment, should be followed to ensure best practices.
